From Farm to Table: Creating Sustainable Local Food Systems
Bowie Woods Garden (pronounced BOO-ee) is a large home garden in Pitt County, North Carolina. We specialize in gourmet and heirloom vegetables.
Our Mission
We believe strongly in the importance of local food systems. Unfortunately, small family farms are slowly becoming a thing of the past in eastern North Carolina. We hope to help change that by encouraging cooperation between farmers and local residents. Local food production has a positive impact on the local economy as well as the environment. (since food does not have to be shipped hundreds or even thousands of miles). Our concern about the potential health and environmental effects of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers lead us to abstain from the use of such chemicals in our garden and we encourage other farmers to do the same.
